After both painters had served an apprenticeship with Cosimo Rosselli, Albertinelli ran a workshop in conjuncti
on with Fra Bartolomeo from 1493 to 1500. The works of this period show the influence of the friar, who often supplied him with designs, and are characterized by their classical style and balanced compositions; examples of which are the \i Annunciation
\i0 in Volterra Cathedral (1493) and the \i Visitation\i0 in the Uffizi (1503). Limpid stretches of landscape form the background of these altarpieces and show the influence of Piero di Cosimo and contemporary Flemish painting. In the final period of his
career, Albertinelli accentuated the monumental and dramatic effect of his pictures by strengthening the contrasts between light and shade.
